Community Safety Award
In November, Carlington Community Health Centre was honoured by Crime Prevention Ottawa with a Community Safety Award for Daisy’s Drop-In, a program that offers a range of services to women working in the sex trade in our community. This initiative was launched after a request from the women themselves, and is a partnership between Carlington and Ottawa Public Health.
The Drop-In operates on Friday mornings from 5:00am to 8:00am in the Caldwell neighbourhood, offering a welcoming and safe place to congregate, a healthy meal, harm reduction supplies, counseling, referalls and access to primary care to the women.
We are hopeful that stable funding will be secured in order to ensure the program’s continued success and even expansion of the model to other parts of the City.
